On 04.01.2012, Union Cabinet cleared a proposal to fill pending vacancies in Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories in the central government, a move that will benefit around 50,000 people.
This decision on recruitment in Central Government is taken within few days after the decision of Government to allow 4.5 per cent reservation to the minorities within the OBC quota.
Government had earlier filled up SC/ST vacancies in the central government by way of a specialrecruitment drive for these categorie in the year 2008.
Implementation of this decision will be possible only after the polls are over as the code of conduct on account of polls in states is in force.
