INFOSYS TO GIVE NEW FACE FOR INDIA POST

Infosys is embarking on training India Post staff in how to use its Finacle banking system after completing the roll-out of the system at 155,000 post offices in India. India Post is moving to the user acceptance phase of a project that began in August 2012, after Infosys won the contract to supply a core banking system to India Post.  C. N. Raghu, head of Infosys in India, said that, with 40% of the Indian population having no bank account, India Post with 155,000 branches is the ideal organization to get rural people into the banking system. Commorative Postage Stamp issued on Eklavya : 27th December, 2013

Ekalavya is a character from the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. He was a young prince of the Nishadha, a confederation of jungle tribes in Ancient India. Ekalavya aspired to study archery in the gurukul of Guru Dronacharya, the greatest known teacher in the use of weaponry and martial art knowledge at the time. He was son of Vyatraj Hiranyadhanus, a talented soldier in the army of King of Magadha. Magadha was ruled by Jarasandha, who was at odds with the Kingdom of Hastinapura. Ekalavya sincerely sought the mentor of Dronacharya in weaponry and martial art. Ekalavya is called as one of the foremost of kings in the Rajasuya Yagna where he honours Yudhishthira with his shoes. Though he didn't have his right thumb, he was noted as a very powerful archer and charioteer.. India Post issued a commemorative stamp on Eklavya on 27th December 2013.

Revised Delivery Norms for Speed Post

  D.G. Posts No. 13-45/2008-D dated 10/11/.12.2013 The norms for delivery of Speed Post articles have in the past been revised from time to time and are also contained in the Citizen’s Charter of the Department. The existing delivery norms for Speed Post are follows: (a)   Local (within municipal limits) : 2 days (b) Between one to another metro city (included the six metro cities i.e. Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad) and limited to Municipal limits of these cities: 2 days (c)    Rest of the country: 4 to 6 days. 2.       The norms mentioned above are further qualified by stating that they exclude the day of posting, Sundays and Holidays that they denote maximum time and apply only to the articles booked before the cut-off time. 3.       The matter relating to revision of the existing norms for delivery of Speed Post articles was under consideration of this Directorate, and the following has been decided in this regard: (a)

No, said the Chennai bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT)  on Wednesday quashing an order of the ministry of communications and IT to initiate fresh proceedings against a retired assistant postmaster who had undergone punishment for his supervisory lapses.       The matter pertains to V Muthukannu, sub-postmaster in Karur division, who was accused of irregular closure of a recurring deposit and non-account of deposits. In his submissions to the tribunal, Muthukannu said in March 2010, the superintendent of post offices ordered recovery of Rs 8,000 per month from his salary for the loss caused to the postal department. No, said the Chennai bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on Wednesday quashing an order of the ministry of communications and IT to initiate fresh  proceedings against a retired assistant postmaster who had undergone punishment for his supervisory lapses. The matter pertains to V Muthukannu, sub-postmaster in Karur division, who was accused of irregular closure of a recurring deposit and non-account of deposits. In his submissions to the tribunal, Muthukannu said in March 2010, the superintendent of post offices ordered recovery of Rs 8,000 per month from his salary for the loss caused to the postal department. After seven months, it was increased to Rs 12,000. For his contributory negligence, he paid Rs 5.07 lakh to the department. No proposal to introduce ‘Parents Care Leave’ on line of ‘Child Care Leave’ – Central Government

In Rajya Sabha the  Minister  of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Shri.V.Narayanasamy said in written reply to a question that there is no proposal to provide for Parent Care Leave on the lines of  Child Care  Leave (CCL). And also  he  replied, "Global Age Watch Index is a measure of  quality of life  and well-being of older people around the world. It measures the economic, social and political elements. India is ranked 73rd out of 91 countries selected for the index. The Government has no  proposal  to provide for Parent Care Leave on the lines of Child Care Leave (CCL). CCL is allowed to female Central  Government employees  with a specific purpose of improving participation of more females in Government service. The Central Government employees are already entitled to various kinds of leave which can be availed for appropriate purposes".

Smt. Sushma Singh takes over as Chief Information Commissioner

The President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee administered the oath of office of the Chief Information Commissioner to Smt. Sushma Singh at the Rashtrapati Bhawan today. She is the fifth Chief Information Commissioner of the Central Information Commission (CIC).   Smt. Sushma Singh joined the CIC as Information Commissioner on September 23, 2009. Prior to joining CIC, Smt. Sushma Singh served as Secretary to the Govt. of India in the Ministries of Information & Broadcasting, Panchyati Raj and the Development of the North East Region (DONER).
