India Post offers 7% discount on price of all gold coins


With the heavy slump in gold prices, the Postal department is also trying to overcome the burdensome situation. India Post is offering a special discount of 7 per cent on the price of all gold coins sold through Post office on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, which falls on the May 13.


The offer is valid for a period up to June 30, 2013. Gold coins are available with India Post Logo in tamperproof packaging along with certification by internationally recognised Assayers in the denominations of 0.5 g, 1 g, 5 g, 8 g, 10 g, 20 g and 50 g of 24 carat with 99.99% purity. India Post retails gold coins in association with World Gold Council and Reliance Money Infrastructure Limited. Coins are manufactured by the world renowned Valcambi SA, Switzerland.


Gold coins are sold through select 60 post offices in all the districts except Malappuram and Kasargod. A proposal on grant TA and transit to officials who are transferred on completion of tenure to the place of their choice was under consideration in this Directorate for sometime past.      SR-114 governs TA on transfer distinguishes between transfer for public convenience and transfer on own request.  Although transfer on completion of tenure in one office has not been specifically referred to in this rule, yet the transfer on completion of tenure is a transfer for public convenience.  On completion of tenure, the official has to be transferred out for operational reasons.  Therefore, such a transfer is mandatory, while posting to a place of choice is secondary and subject to public convenience.  In view of this posting to a place of choice after completion of full tenure may not be normally termed as a "transfer on own request" under SR-114.      It
