The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 came into force with effect from 9th December 2013. The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Rules, 2013 has also notified on 9th December, 2013. The Act seeks to cover all women, irrespective of their age or employment status and protect them against sexual harassment at all workplaces both in public and private sector, whether organized or unorganized. The Act envisages mechanism in the form of Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and Local Complaints Committee (LCC). All workplaces employing 10 or more than 10 workers are mandated under the Act to constitute an ICC. Complaints from workplaces employing less than 10 workers or when the complaint is against the employer will be looked into by the LCC. It is leant that Hon'ble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will release commemorative postage stamp in the denomination of Rs. 5/- to commemorate the martyrdom of Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh on 17/12/2013. The postal stamp releasing ceremony will be attended by Punjab MPs, including Communications Minister Kapil Sibal, Ambika Soni, all family members of Beant Singh. Besides them, all seniorPunjab Congress leaders including PCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa, Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar and other Congress leaders from the state, would attend the ceremony. Beant Singh was assassinated along with 17 others including three commandos at the Punjab secretariat on August 31, 1995 in a bomb blast. Beant Singh had become Punjab Chief Minister in 1992.

Government had constituted a Group of Ministers (GoM) on 17.04.2013 to recommend short term, medium term and long term measures for revival and revitalization of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). Department of Telecommunications has circulated a draft Note for inter-ministerial consultations on 30.10.2013 proposing preferential treatment to BSNL and MTNL services in Central Government Ministries/Central Government Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Autonomous Bodies to enhance the revenues earned by BSNL and MTNL. Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today, Shri Kapil Sibal, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said that the proposal is not contrary to economic policy as it is limited to Government employees for whom reimbursement facility from Government is provided and limited to the extent of the reimbursement and to Government departments & PSUs for official use.
